Filling the Big Irrigation Canals Ready for Spring

Water flows in the Large Irrigation canal as pumps on a barge and at the power house fill the system. Engineers faced delays from parts shortages but today one steam pump rapidly fills the canal, while the east side canal along the Muddy is also being filled. Farmers with water contracts urged to prepare their laterals for spring.

North Dakota Battleship Named After State as Warship Plan

The President confirms the next 20,000 ton battleship will be named North Dakota after a proposed New York change was dropped at Senator Hansborough's request. The monster ship stretches 510 feet at 21 knots with ten 12 inch rifles, four 6 inch guns, machine guns, and two torpedo tubes. Fore River Shipbuilding holds the contract. completion expected in three years.

High School Notes and Student Activities

John Harris visits Chicago and several students return to school on Monday. Seventeen pictures bought with play proceeds are now hung. Allstar football team practices nightly at 6 p m. Attendance is higher than ever. The Literary Society reorganized September 20 electing officers led by Ivan Metzger as president and Max Hollett as vice president. Next meeting is Friday October 4.

Agricultural College announces practical farm husbandry course

The Agricultural College of Cass County announces a practical course in farm husbandry starting October 14 1903. The program runs three years of five and a half months each with work during slack farm periods. Boats Will Haul Grain to Williston From Nelson Hofflund Country

Joseph Mann of the River and Packet Company of Washburn North Dakota arrived in the city to inspect the Nelson Hofflund area for a grain hauling line to Williston. About 90 000 bushels of grain in the region on both river banks await shipment Monday evening. Captain I P Baker of Bis­marck will dispatch boats soon, with expected arrivals in a few days, to move grain and related freight, aiding farmers near Tobacco Garden Charle­son and Schafer who would otherwise haul their grain fifty miles to ship.
