Taft Wins 321 Electoral Votes in Nationwide Count
New York November 7 William Taft will receive 321 electoral votes to 162 for Bryan. Maryland split its electors six for Bryan and two for Taft though Taft led in the state popular vote 416 471 to 115 910. Missouri backed Taft by 3172 plurality. New York shown a huge Taft lead of 218 000, with Massachusetts and New Jersey also swinging to Republicans. Indiana stayed close for the Democrats while governors in several states were elected and Taft headed to Hot Springs for rest.

Four Miners Entombed in Rend Ill Mine Disaster
Four workers were entombed after a mine shot caused an avalanche of coal and gas at Lester's Mine in Rend Illinois. Rescuers entered the shaft 1 500 feet from the air shaft, but later reports said the entombed men were dead. Families gathered at the mine mouth as rescuers worked to recover bodies.
Oust Western Trust as Trustee in Chicago Milwaukee Bond Case
Alexander Beaubien bondholder sues to remove Western Trust and Savings bank of Chicago as trustee of the Chicago & Milwaukee Electric Railroad issue valued at about ten million dollars. He alleges watering of bonds and seeks a permanent injunction to block the bank from acting as trustee until the hearing set for November 21 before Judge Turner.

Fire at Eliss Electrical School Leaves 150 Students Homeless
About 150 students fled in nightclothes as an Eliss Electrical school wing burned to the ground in North Takoma. The three story wood building, once the North Takoma hotel, suffered an estimated 60 000 dollar loss after a defective kitchen wire sparked the blaze. Most dormitory occupants escaped from second story windows, losing belongings but with no injuries.
