New York reports William Howard Taft elected president with James Sherman as vice president after a hard fought campaign. Bryan loses for a third time while Taft nears 292 electoral votes with gains in New York and statewide margins. Analysts note Republican control of Congress and strong midwestern support.

Riprapping Work Under Way Along River Bank

The Great Northern has crews grading for a new side track along the river bank. Rock for riprapping will be placed along the right of way and hauled to the city after the siding is finished. The city must secure willows for the project and plans are being made to cut and place them at the site.

Republican ticket wins in county race

The entire Republican ticket in the county, including the senator and representatives, was elected Tuesday with several candidates posting majorities over a thousand and the lowest above four hundred. Ben Olson won sheriff by a large margin, Riley and Dougherty disputed for second, Riley likely securing it. Braatelsen won state’s attorney with Gilmore second. Becker followed. E M Atterberry topped by about 500. County judge and senator/representatives were the only other competitive offices.

County Division Vote Narrowly Missed by 158 Votes

As we go to press county division has fallen short by 158 votes with two precincts still to report. The outcome hinges on late tallies from remaining precincts.

Short Kil led Editor fatally shot during deer hunt near Ross

Editor Phil Short of Ross was accidentally killed yesterday afternoon by Clayton Youkin of Minot during a deer hunt across the river. Short and Dr E H Belyea of this city were escorting a deer when another hunter's shot ended Short's life.

Gov Burke Probable Re-Elected In Tight North Dakota Race

Early results show John Burke leading C A Johnson by about 3000 statewide with Ward County and Minot favoring Burke. In the local county contest Johnson led by about eleven votes as two precincts remained unreported, while the Republican ticket also appears to win.

Johnson Leads With Early county Return Indications

Reports from McKenzie County this afternoon suggest M N Johnson has the nomin ation and leads in the nation by about 3000 votes. Johnson's county showing indicates a roughly 300 vote majority for him. Additional messages come from Ferm Loans W H Denny in Williston North Dakota.
