Citizens urged to form a strong Williston Commercial Club to boost the city. Officers plan a near term meeting to revive the club and a canvass for 150 members, arguing a larger, more active organization wields greater influence than a smaller one.
Secretary of the Navy Victor H. Metcalf resigns effective December 1 due to a chronic nervous illness. Assistant Secretary Truman H. Newberry will succeed him, a move aligned with Taft era plans. Newberry, a veteran naval supporter and former Roosevelt ally, has prior naval service and business background. The president also names George S. Terry as assistant treasurer in New York and Col.
