A gas explosion in Leeds North Carolina tore through Henry Nelson’s pool room and restaurant. Injured include Charles Dunn with a broken knee, Bernard Peterson with ankle injuries, Henry Johnson with flesh wounds, John Batters with scalp wounds and a broken shoulder, Tollis Nelson severely burned, and proprietor Nelson present during the blast. Fire followed but was contained. building damage estimated at 2500 dollars with limited insurance.

A Soo line wreck east of Courtney near Valley City North Carolina on May 15 saw two day coaches and the emigrant sleeper derail at high speed as defective rails failed. Three passengers were seriously injured all with back injuries. two hundred yards of track torn up blocked traffic all day while Pullmans and diners stayed on the rails.

Hotel Tenants Escape Death In Fire At Dickey Hotel
Ellendale North Dakota May 14 Guests in the Dickey hotel were dining when fire broke out in the basement center. Dense smoke filled all apartments within minutes as women and children were rescued. No deaths but several overcome. Firemen faced difficulty locating the blaze as a hole burned through the cafe floor into the basement. The hotel cost over 40000 to build and furnish and opened January 15. Loss to owner R W Dickey estimated at least 10000 with weeks of repairs ahead.

An explosion at St. Alexius hospital in Bismarck during repair of the hot water plant wrecked the basement and lower floors, blew south side windows, and scalded two plumbers. The hospital, filled with patients, reported two injured workers and a nurse escaped harm.
