Grand Forks March 22 The North Dakota Bankers Association calls for school savings banks linked with schools to instill thrift among students. The letter cites success in other regions and notes 201 cities had such banks with deposits over 1.16 million in 1918. North Dakota already has banks in Grand Forks Bismarck Grafton and Amenia. Over $6,000 in prizes are to be awarded in the great voting state.

Minot Husband Shoots His Wife in Jealous Rage
Bertha McPeek, 86, ex cook at Reed's restaurant, was shot in the abdomen at 9:50 p.m. at 112 Park Avenue, dying minutes later. Her husband Joseph McPeek, 24, a former spouse, fled the scene, wandered the city, and surrendered at the county jail after a brief chase. Authorities say jealousy appears to be the motive.

Devils Lake North Dakota March 18. A B Arthur was sentenced by Judge Buttz to fifteen months in the state penitentiary for forgery. He had served a short term in the city jail, then went to Crary where he wrote a check on a bank with no funds and left town, leaving a board bill behind.

Minot March 21 The main building of the new Minot Normal school will be ready for occupancy on or about April 1 allowing the spring term to begin Monday April 6 in the new quarters. Top floors are nearly finished and other floors should be fit for use by the date. The campus crew is pushing work rapidly and the new dormitory will also be among the west’s finest. President Crane, the faculty and students await the opening with pleasure. The armory has served well but temporary quarters hindered. The opening will bring considerable satisfaction.
