Huge engine toppled in local yards during siding work
Last Thursday afternoon a large engine tender and two flat cars toppled near the ice houses at the west end of the yards. A wrecking crew worked all day Friday to right the rolling stock. The engine sustained considerable damage as filling gave way during new sidings construction. the engine crew escaped injury by jumping as it began to tip.
Great Northern Wreck Near Katka Idaho After Avalanche
Passenger train No 4 due in Wil liston at 245 am Saturday was wrecked by rock avalanche at Katka Idaho eleven miles east of Bonners Ferry. Engineer and fireman killed. engine sunk in ninety feet of water. mail car derailed but upright at river edge. passengers unaware until later. Conductor recounted being hurled amid sleeping and observation cars and seeing engine sink. Mail clerk rescued with light injuries.

London reports Field Marshal Earl Kitchener head of the British War Office and Admiral Jellicoe among the dead as the Hampshire was sunk west of the Orkneys likely by a mine or torpedo. Only a capsized boat and some bodies recovered. little hope for survivors. The Hampshire carried 655 men and Kitchener had been en route to Russia to consult authorities on the Russian offensive.

Minneapolis Visitors Welcomed by Williston Civic Leaders
A twelve car special train carried 100 Minneapolis Civic and Commerce members into Williston on Tuesday evening, rain not dampening the welcome. The program at the armory featured speeches by Craven and Jackson, a Roasiier’s band concert, a social dance, and a ladies pennant greeting system, ending with a late snack at Odd Fellows hall.

Death summons a Williston man at home
John W. Von Nieda collapsed at his dining table in the Union block Saturday afternoon from heart failure. He was 21 years old, married a year to Katie Prebel, and died with his wife present. He worked at the Great Northern offices and was born in Fargo North Dakota. The body was moved to Hamre undertaking parlors and will be interred in Minneapolis, home of his parents. Mrs Von Nieda left for Minneapolis to attend the funeral.
