In Paris on July 23 Maj Alfred Dreyfus wore the full uniform and received the cross of chevalier of the Legion of Honor. The ceremony, held in the military school courtyard, was strictly official and marked by two artillery batteries and trumpets. Dreyfus, who had his sword broken 12 years earlier, accepted the honor with brief thanks as army officials saluted.
