Democratic Committee Meeting Elects State Committeeman

A Democratic committee meeting at the Court House elected Herman Nelson state committeeman over Richard Peyton. Precinct committee men from Williams and McKenzie counties attended the meeting, with Nelson receiving thirteen votes to Peyton's ten.

Special Call For Draft Boys

The local draft board will send seven men of draft age to Jefferson Barracks between August 8 and 10 for special training and nine men to Fargo around August 15. The trained men are needed by the government for specific lines of service, and no 1918 draftees will be called for this training unless they volunteer at the local draft office.

Mould Planes Across Atlantic Proposed by Handley Page

Washington reports Handley Page representative W H Workman outlined a plan to build 10 000 aircraft in U S production centers by late 1918 and deliver them to France within days to overwhelm German lines with nightly air power. He proposed routes Newfoundland Azores Portugal France with machines flying every ten minutes once begun.
