Amsterdam reports a Wolff bureau dispatch confirms the death of Quentin Roosevelt, buried with military honors by the German troops. Scholander Elected County Agent at Farm Bureau Meeting

Submarine Attack Sinks Barges Off Cape Cod Shore
An enemy submarine attacked a tow off Cape Cod near Orleans, sinking three barges and firing shells onto the mainland. The tug Perth Amboy and lifeboats evacuated crews as shells wounded several people and drew thousands to the shore. The Chatham aviation station circled the Uboat causing a brief submergence.

Rousing Sendoff For Draft Boys From Williams County
Over one hundred Williams county youths departed Monday evening for Camp Custer at Battle Creek Michigan after a large Armory gathering. Superintendent C E Blume spoke on democracy in a stirring patriotic address. The Williston Band provided music and Red Cross members supplied kit bags as the group marched to the depot for the eight thirty train.

Belfast dispatch reports the liner Justicia sunk off the Irish coast on Saturday morning. Crew numbered 600 to 700 with eleven dead and four hundred men landed at an Irish port after a 24 hour battle with submarines.
