Tornado Devastates Pukwana Brale County Town

A Sunday night tornado swept Pukwana near Mitchell, Brale County, destroying twelve to fifteen buildings and wrecking homes. The twister struck around 11 p.m., uprooting elevators and a depot, closing the O M & St P main line, with darkness hampering evacuation and leaving much of the town in ruins.

Drowning during Fargo high diving exhibition

Henry Hemphill, a steeple-jack who recently faced unemployment, drowned last night during a rose-thin diving display from a Fargo bridge into the Red River. A large crowd watched as he sank after a surface swim, with reports claiming intoxication at the time. Hemphill, thought to be from St. Louis, had gained notice weeks earlier from a fall at a high stack incident.

Fire at Rice's Point wipes out Duluth elevators

A blaze at Rice's Point in Duluth consumes over a million dollars in property including Consolidated Elevator Co facilities and dock sheds while Northern Pacific structures weather a near catastrophe. Tugboats and fire crews battle flames from 12:35 pm to eight pm as elevators burn to smoldering wreckage. A small explosion and roof fumes hasten destruction before containment.

Progressives Lead Iowa GOP Convention With Strong Endorsements

In Waterloo on June 25 progressives ran the state convention not vindictively. They backed Gov. Cummins progressive rail and corporate reform and praised Iowa's congressional delegation led by Sen. Mason. They secured a slim majority on the state campaign committee and nominated Judges Ladd and Weaver for another supreme bench term while approving recent state officer nominations.

Big Loss in Oil Fields From Lightning Fires

A series of electric storms in western and northern Pennsylvania on Tuesday and Wednesday caused large oil fires. Over 100000 barrels of oil burned, with three refineries destroyed and about 500000 dollars in losses. Fires broke out at Bradford Warren and Washington.
