Taft Nominated on First Ballot by Republicans in Chicago
At Chicago on June 18 William H Taft of Ohio was nominated for president on the first ballot by the Republican national convention. He received over 700 votes, 200 more than needed. The lengthy session adopted the platform and featured speeches for Taft and others. A later session on June 19 named James S Sherman as Taft s running mate as the convention closed.

Benoit of Ray Wm Horton of Minot L D Mather of Minneapolis H W North R K Stewart and D A Stewart of this city Robert L Stewart was re elected general manager The board approved plant enlargement with more machinery and a 200 ton per day capacity to be phased in and the plant to start operating as early as possible.

Judge Goss Wins Wide, Two to One, in Eight District
Judge E. B. Goss sweeps the eighth judicial district by at least a two to one margin. In the city anti Goss forces fail to stop him. Minot supports him by a 71 vote lead, and countywide the tally runs about two to one. County total 1478 for Goss and 674 for Palda with 18 precincts remaining.

Des Lacs Tornado Damages Farms and Buildings
A June 23 tornado west of Minot North Dakota damaged Des Lacs area buildings including a feed mill owned by W Cox and a Ford Fuller barn while destroying a livery barn roof and other structures. Heavy hail followed and wind toppled fence sections as a Catholic church scaffold collapsed. A J Schmidt noted wheat appeared undamaged though flattened by wind.

Death of Mrs Ida Bruce in Minot hospital
Mrs Ida Bruce sister of Gus Berg dies after a two week illness in Minot hospital. She lived on a claim northwest of the city and came for treatment on June 13. Funeral held at Mrs George Bruegger’s home conducted by Rev Henness, burial in Willis ton cemetery. She leaves a four year old son and three brothers.
