Chaffee Funeral Held by Elks in Grand Forks

Under Elks direction the Brotherly Protective Order held Wednesday afternoon services in Grand Forks for Victor Chaffee. Family and friends gathered around the grave as the beloved man was laid to rest.

Hitchcock Is Made Chairman of Republican National Committee

Frank H Hitchcock was unanimously chosen chairman of the Republican National Committee at Hot Springs Virginia after a Taft campaign conference. George Rumsey Sheldon was named treasurer and Arthur I Vorys tasked with Ohio campaign duties. Cincinnati was set as the committee headquarters. Johnson men plan campaign for November race

Grand Forks North Dakota July report says M N Johnson campaign group becomes permanent with five organizers including Judge Engerud of Fargo chairing. Campaign will run through November with quiet period then vigorous activity and a push for Starkwart support. Captain Mike Small, a river ferryman, drowned last week near Sioux Crossing. his body not recovered. Small, from South Dakota, came to the area years ago with Captain Bailey.

Picnic and log rolling at Wil son Grove near Williston

A Modern Woodman picnic and log rolling event will be held at Wil son’s Grove about three miles from Williston on July 23 1908 under the Modern Woodman camp 5396 Wiliston. The event invites all Woodmen their families and friends. The picnic is free and aims to foster acquaintance rest from labor social and intellectual enjoyment. Bring dinner and join the outing as posters announce.

Edith Hunsley and Roy Crumb Wed Near City

Miss Edith A Hunsley and Roy A Crumb wed at the bride’s sister north of the city on July 8 at high noon in a ceremony by Rev Hollett with about twenty guests. A lavish dinner followed and the couple plan to move soon to a new home near Chicago Illinois.

Boy Dies in Trenton Fire After Family Night Out

A three year old son of Gilford Howard from Eight Mile Bottom near Trenton died from burns after his clothes caught fire while parents were asleep following a Fourth of July dance. Doctors attended but could not save him. funeral held last Tuesday.

Denver July 8 The Democratic National convention held a brief session and adjourned until tonight amid expected stirring scenes and incidents The credentials committee declared against Col James M Guffey of Pennsylvania and New York with thirteen other states signed the minority report The platform committee elected Gov Chas N Haskell permanent chairman and appointed a seventeen member sub committee to draft the platform The inland waterways plank drew arguments from Ransdell Broward and Clarke A fight over credentials briefly unsettled the assembly before Bryan supporters asserted control Governors Burke and McLean were named on the North Dakota platform and resolutions committees was chosen with Burke as chairman

Accidental Shooting Injures Resident Near Ray

Andrew J. Stordaten of two miles from Ray was practicing with a 22 rifle when it slipped and fired. The bullet lodged in his wrist and he was taken to town for bullet extraction by Dr. Abplanalp. The incident was deemed fortunate not to be worse.
