In Williston Indiana April 1 18 voters will choose a mayor and three councilmen for two years with socialist ticket withdrawn only two tickets remain. The paper urges voters to consider candidates qualifications and vote for those best able to improve city business advertising and attract wholesale and manufacturing to expand Williston.
The Chicago Record-Herald notes extensive discussion on a federal inheritance tax as part of proposed tariff measures. It argues such taxes are proper for the federal government, cites historical precedents, and urges Congress to adopt and preserve the levy as a stable revenue source while respecting state rights.

Washington March 27 Food Commissioner Barnard of Indiana hails the passage and enactment of a model sanitation bill for food factories drafted for the Mackinas conference. He calls it the culmination of consumer and food official crusade for pure food and predicts it will become law in several states. The act requires rigorous daily cleaning and protection of facilities and equipment and clean attire for workers.

A roan gelding, about 12 years old and 1300 pounds, was lost from a location 10 miles northeast of Williston around December 10. The horse has no brand but a slight scar on the lower lip.
