Local residents report family visits from Dallas Sherman and Ada with relatives in Kentuckytown and Denison. Weekend guests include Navy member Ray Hansard in San Diego and Belmonts in Sherman. Commencement invitations go to Whitewright and Bells seniors May 28. church activities mark May gatherings.
Local families from Wichita Falls Dallas Honey Grove and Ector visited the Ely community hosts Mr and Mrs P L Owen. Corporal Jimmy B Watkins son of L A Watkins Sr reported from Burlington Germany that he was wounded hospitalized over three months and expected discharge in November.
Funeral services were held at 3 p m in the First Baptist Church for Mrs Anna Peck Sloan Bow wife of the late Dr J L Bow. Burial followed in Bells Cemetery with active pallbearers listed. She was born August 27 1880 in Ironton Missouri and moved to Texas as a child. Her survivors include a daughter Mrs Jack Nossaman and two grandchildren Jackie and Jimmie Nossaman.
C C Melugin 72 of Savoy died at 6 p m Wednesday at Wilson N Jones Hospital Sherman Funeral services set for 2 p m Friday at Savoy Baptist Church He was the step father of Carlton Johnson of Whitewright.
Mrs. L. A. Watkins Sr hosted a farewell shower Saturday May 8 at her home for Mrs. Tom Arney and family as they relocate to Garland. Guests included Mrs. Claude Thompson Mrs. Tony Ingram and Betty Lou Mrs. Benny Chesser Mrs. Lydia Mae Morrison and daughter Mrs. Viola Wright and children and Mrs. L. A. Watkins Jr. Gifts were opened after games and refreshments of ice cream cake and candy.
Mrs Minnie Patterson and Mrs Jim Logan hosted the Hickman Sunday School Class at the First Presbyterian Church manse last Thursday. Members agreed to bring towels for the Reynolds Orphanage in Dallas, committees were appointed, table games were played, pecans served, and bi monthly socials were planned.
Mr and Mrs M B Jernigan of 420 South Rusk Sherman announce the engagement of their daughter Mitzi Jernigan to John Charles Jones son of Mr and Mrs A B Jones of Whitewright Jones is a 1948 Sherman High School graduate and served in the Navy during the war He will marry in June and they will reside in Whitewright after marriage
The Senior 4-H Club held its annual achievement day on Friday May 7 in the Whitewright Grade School library. Miss Moore could not attend but prizes were to be awarded later. First prize went to Nancy Sue May for a display including a dress two stuffed animals an apron six cup towels and a kitchen towel. Gail Taylor took second prize with two cup towels a tablecloth four napkins an apron a chair set and a scarf. Jeanette Jones earned third prize for an embroidered towel two aprons and a dresser stool. Cookies and cold drinks were served and games were held in the eighth grade room with judges Miss Sallye Hamilton Miss Mardell Pumphrey and Mrs Nana Francis.
Rotary Club heard Murray Nance assistant county attorney speak about his experiences during the war as an FBI agent. Introduced by program chairman Joe Johnson he described cases reported by citizens who suspected foreign spies and outlined some assignments he handled.

The State of Texas issues a citation to Firmen Moberly to answer a petition filed April 9 1948 in Grayson County District Court Sherman Texas case No 56421. Plaintiffs R A Morton and others seek partition of 131 58 acres of land with complex described boundaries and history including prior US and private deeds and a 1943 judgment. A receiver may be appointed to sell and place proceeds in court registry with distributions per future order.
