Whitewright High School holds baccalaureate Sunday at 8 15 p m in First Methodist Church with Rev Clifford Taylor Jr delivering the sermon. Eight more church leaders take part as students hear song selections and processional by Mrs Roby Childress. Twenty two graduates listed. Commencement follows Friday May 28 at 8 15 p m in the WHS auditorium with Rev R L Gilpin delivering the address and awards presented by Mr Caraway and diplomas by C J Meador and H M Gentry.

At the 39th Rotary International convention in Rio de Janeiro Angus S. Mitchell of Melbourne Australia was elected president for 1948 49. Mitchell a director of several Australian manufacturing concerns and a Rotarian for 21 years previously led Melbourne Rotary and served as director district governor and committee member of Rotary International. The convention drew over 3500 Rotarians and families from about 50 countries with the theme Solidarity through Friendship.

Eugene N. Fritz Jr., a 68 year old San Francisco hotel and apartment owner, left for McNeil Island federal prison after being sentenced to 18 months on each of three income tax evasion counts. The terms run concurrently. His San Francisco holdings, valued at over $6 million, include the Park Lane Huntington and Brocklebank hotels on Nob Hill and the El Cortez and Sutter hotels.

Missing girl found in ice box in Lawrence
Lawrence Massachusetts. A nine year old girl Dorothy St Jean who had been missing since Monday afternoon was found Tuesday feverish and frightened in an ice box in the empty apartment above her home. She hid in the ice box because she was afraid to face her parents after being reprimanded at school. The child was put to bed under a physician’s care.

Ninety Texan training planes arrive at Perrin Air Base

Whisky raid nets fines in Brownwood dog house case

Organize Marine Reserve Unit Meets in Sherman Court
A meeting in Sherman at the 15th District Court room at 7:30 p m will organize an active U S Marine Corps Reserve Unit. The unit will include eight officers and 245 enlisted men with full equipment and weekly two hour drills. Members receive full day’s pay for the two hour period and openings exist for all rates. Ex-service personnel are invited. ex-Marines not required. Potential draft exemptions may apply for seventeen and eighteen year olds when enlisted. Members may resign if the country is not in a national emergency or war. Documentation encourages attendance to secure preferred rates.
