O Daniel remembered as Texas political phenom
A personal nostalgia piece recounts W Lee O Daniel, the "Pappy," as a demagogue with broad Texas appeal. It recalls his early radio fame with the Light Crust Doughboys, his 1938 primary win, a 1940 gubernatorial bid, and his move to the U S Senate, ending in waning influence. The author cites fan ardor, opposition, and familial praise.
