AAA Ups Subsidy Rates for Wheat and Other Crops
The Agricultural Adjustment Administration announced higher subsidy rates for wheat and other crops as part of next year’s planting and quota measures. Wheat subsidies rise to 26–30 cents per bushel with a 31 percent acreage cut target, amid a projected $712 million in payments. The plan includes potential marketing quotas for cotton and possible reduced corn plantings to curb surpluses, with home gardens exempted and nurse crops allowed to preserve soil.

Substitutes Dethrone Cotton in German Trade War
German traders on the Dallas Cotton Exchange say cotton is finished as dominant and that substitutes like cellipse, wood pulp and coal blends, may dismantle cotton’s global role. They highlight raincoat trials, new fibers, and high labor costs abroad as factors hindering a U.S. return to foreign markets. A Dallas Dispatch Journal report notes a tire made from chalk and coal with 14,000 miles wear, illustrating broader shifts toward science and synthetic materials in Europe.
