Texas history shows earlier settlement than the 100 year centennial with Spanish and English sources noting white arrivals 400 years past. The 1841 guide by English consul Arthur Ikin describes cattle ranching as the staple Texas occupation, detailing cheap stock, pasture living, and profit potential from cattle, horses, hogs, sheep, poultry, bees, and farm practices amid prairie lands and water access.

He cites a rise from 1 cent in 1850 to 6 cents in 1900 and 35 cents in 1935 of every income dollar going to government. He claims over 100,000 regulations from commissions and bureaus carry the force of law but are not on statutes.

The article argues that contrary to Will Clayton and others, U S cotton exports surged in the first seven months of the current year reaching about 4.4 million bales, nearing last year’s total and suggesting full-year exports around 6.75 million bales, despite earlier forecasts of collapse due to the Triple A program. It notes foreign mills had stockpiled cotton in 1931-33 and 1934-35 they used existing stocks instead of purchasing more.
