John Alverson, TVA employee from Iuka Mississippi, recounts aiding tornado victims in Tupelo. He describes the devastation, injuries, and mass effort by TVA, CCC, National Guard, firefighters, and doctors to rescue, treat, and transport the dead and injured.
Gov Allred announced that so called Texas Centennial Ranger commissions are not official Texas Rangers. He canceled existing Texas Ranger style commissions issued to non residents and said the honors are purely Centennial Exposition recognitions. He signed the seals to the honors. A closing note mentions Moroccan gun runners.
D B Baker of Seguin resigns from the Public Safety Commission amid policy disputes over the promotion of L G Phares to permanent director of the Department of Public Safety. Governor Allred seeks reconciliation as J W McCormick, famed Texas Ranger leader, reportedly considers his future.
Secretary of State moves to enforce a law limiting war veterans associations. Charters of 13 corporations using veteran related terms were canceled, including groups in Fort Worth, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. Approval now required from congressionally recognized veterans bodies or specific named organizations.

Making the survey WPA rather than PWA may hinder hiring due to WPA relief labor rules. Four teen men from Elmira New York will form the core of the engineering party with maximum use of relief labor.
The Liquor Control Board reported that license fees and taxes totaled 2,166,759. It forecast higher collections next year. A survey of other states found a near certainty of increases after repeal, with only one state showing revenue decline in the second year. About three fourths of net income funded old age pensions.
J R Johnson pleaded guilty to negligent homicide in the March crash that killed Mrs. W B Stokes of Gladewater, the youngest sister of Gov. James V Allred. Judge Jonathan Russell fined him $500 and sentenced him to 60 days in Wood County jail. he indicated no appeal. The fatal collision occurred east of Mineola when a car it carried was forced from the highway and struck a bridge.
COLLEGE STATION Farmers advised to use last year’s planting as guidance under the new soil conservation and domestic allotment act. Jack Shelton of the extension service urges retiring acres be used for soil building crops in 1936. No crop control, payments likely based on land productivity with proof of compliance.
A. L. Smith of the Extension Service urges farmers to plan their fields and farming system before evaluating the new Soil Conservation and Domestic Allotment Act program. He notes grants may be paid later for approved soil conserving practices, with payments up to 5 cents per pound for lint cotton shifted from depleted soil to protective uses, limited to 35% of base cotton acreage per county.
The survey shows reading newspapers as the top leisure activity, followed by listening to the radio. Attending church services ranks sixth and motoring ninth in the results of the straw poll.

Mayor F. M. Echols was re elected for the eleventh consecutive term in Whitewright Tuesday. He began his twenty first year as mayor Wednesday and will have twenty two years total when the present term ends. Since 1916 Whitewright has had commission government with Echols also serving as city manager for fifteen years.
In a Saturday election for two seats on the Whitewright Board of Education one hundred thirty eight votes were cast marking a higher turnout than typical. R A Gillett sought reelection with 108 votes, Clay Horton won a seat with 70 votes, while F D Layman R P Childress and Glenn Doss also appeared on the ticket. Polls opened at 8 am and voting gained momentum after noon, producing a near record tally.
Two new oil tests are planned near the Grayson Cooke county line southwest of Sherman. A 122 foot steel derrick was being erected on the W. M. Blair estate farm of 115 acres in the Denver survey. Pete Shaner of Ardmore reports materials on site and drilling may start within days.
Texas reports show severe crop losses after a cold snap with peach orchards in North East Texas suffering 50 to 75 percent damage and East Texas tomato belts seeing 25 to 90 percent losses depending on field location. Poor air drainage worsened effects. The piece also notes a Spanish decree offering a quarter liter of ordinary wine free with meals priced 3 to 10 pesetas.

New Philadelphia Ohio reports that a $40,000,000 Muskingum watershed district will relocate or abandon fourteen villages and numerous farms across sixteen counties to create flood control and soil conservation. Three towns must be moved or razed. several others face relocation with WPA aid possible if communities choose to resettle.
In Bountiful Utah a dog was sentenced to die after a summary conviction for assault with intent to lacerate. Sheriff spoke after farmer Enoch Holbrook was severely bitten on the legs and hospitalized. The dog was jailed awaiting execution.
The Denison chamber of commerce reports a hearing set for Monday afternoon April 20 on paving State Highway 160 between Denison and Bells. A chamber committee will travel to Austin to confer with the highway commission.
