American Legion Plans Hoard Park Purchase
Preston Everheart Post of the American Legion through a committee led by J. H. Hollingsworth is raising funds from ex servicemen to buy Hoard Park south of the Cotton Belt railroad. An $800 option is in place with about $600 subscribed. A stock company will be formed for contributors and a building plus park improvements are planned. A football field may be laid out on the north end of the eight acre tract. The annual Legion picnic has long been held in Heard Park with rental paid each year.

Death of Gray County native Robert O Mathis near Whitewright
Robert O Mathis of Gray County died at his home five miles west of Whitewright Tuesday at 10 am after months of illness. Born September 24, 1855, he lived in Grayson County all his life and belonged to Kentuckytown Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at his residence Wednesday at 2:30 pm with Rev. C Chumbley presiding. Interment followed at Wittitee Cemetery. Survived by his widow, a son, two daughters and a sister living in nearby towns.
