Origins of writing to Troy newspaper history era
An exploratory essay traces how writing evolved from symbols to phonetic alphabets and led to the printer's art. It covers ancient origins from Egypt to Phoenicia, the spread of printing, and early newspapers in Rome and Europe. It then details Troy's first printing plant, ownership shifts, and the growth of the Troy Record under J. N. Jarvis and successors, highlighting investments and modernization efforts.

Collinsville Monitor and press: a century of upheaval and relocation
After a few months a trial the Collinsville Journal folded then changed hands to Geo C Hartung and W Rawson who ran the Col Hiveville Monitor briefly. Hartung bought Rawson out, then Hartung moved the plant to this city publishing a first number on March 29, 1804. The office shows presses a mailing machine and hundreds of fonts, aiming to financial security rather than play. The firm recently moved into a new spacious building, projecting growth and stability.
