Woman Arrested in Horse and Buggy Theft Case

A notice from W P Tyler announces a reward of 50 dollars for the return of a bay horse and rubber-tired buggy stolen from George Byers of the Blue Ribbe Stable in Columbus and 5 dollars for the thief’s arrest. Mrs Jamie Rutter Swartz was charged after officers traced the May Collen alias to her Chesterville home and found the property, claiming she intended to return it. Swartz, wife of Dora Swartz, previously jailed and later discharged from the penitentiary, was arrested and jailed in Wooster with the property identified by Byers and Tyers.

Wooster M E Church District Conference Opens in Smithville

The fifty second semi annual session of the Wooster district conference of the M E church opened Monday evening in Smithville with an address by Rev W P Thirkield secretary of Freedmen's Aid and Southern Education Society. The agenda lists several speakers including Prof Charles Hauper Wooster Prof J E Mobler Orrville and multiple local ministers.

Flags and Flowers Memorial Day Service in Wooster

Memorial Day events in Wooster followed a set program with large attendance. A 2 o clock march from the Square led to the cenotaph for ritual services by patriotic groups and graves were decorated at Wooster and Catholic cemeteries. Judge R M Campbell of Ashland spoke an eloquent tribute to fallen soldiers as Co D of the 8th Regt O N G fired the last volley.

Flag Day Observance urged by WEC and Grand Army

National and state officers of the WEC promote Saturday June 14 as Flag Day with a circular urging every corps member to display the flag at home and persuade neighbors to join. The aim is to present auxiliaries to the Grand Army of the Republic as champions of liberty and the flag’s enduring principles.

Sixth Annual Basket Picnic of Wayne County Society

The Wayne Co Picnic Society will hold its Sixth Annual Basket Picnic on Experiment Station Farm grove Saturday June 14 1902 at 10 o clock in the morning. Dinner at noon includes music and prayers by Rev W A Littell. Reports by J C Sidle and Director Thorne follow with officer elections and a farm ride led by station staff. All farmers and others in agriculture are invited.

John H. Bartell aged 66 years 5 months 7 days of Wayne native died at home on Nold Avenue Sunday June 1. He was a shoemaker respected by all who knew him. Council Meeting Sets Park Use and Improvements

City council Monday discussed paving grading and street work west of town. The Wayne County Sabbath School association urged park use for the Fourth of July and requested bandstand painting. Park and City Hall committees were empowered to prepare the park and obtain a flag for City Hall.

Mrs Metzler 81 Dies at Infirmary May 29

Mrs Mary Metzler aged 81 widow of Adam Metzler died at the infirmary May 29. Two sons survive.
