A collection of short items from Wooster area papers recount festival profits, farm transactions, injuries, deaths, marriages, court actions, and postal rules. Notable notes include Evangelical church festival profits, Trautman property sale, crop losses, child injuries, a fatal illness in Wadsworth, a distant barn build in Shreve, and a rural mailbox rule effective October 1 1902.
The Eighth Regt O V I annual reunion at Canton last Thursday drew many veterans. A campfire at Myers Lake, a reception for visitors, and remarks by Col. C V Hard opened the event. Gen. Dick and Major Weybrecht arrived Friday morning. Officers elected included Commander William F. Hanley of East Liverpool, vice commander Major Weybrecht of Alliance, adjutant Fred Oeschman of East Liverpool, and quartermaster K. W. Taylor of West Salem. The next gathering is planned for East Liverpool in September or October.
Eva Reits aged 96 years 2 months and 2 days died at her daughter Mrs Louis Shibleys home Beallave Saturday night July 19. Born in Germany she came to the United States with her husband Simon over 70 years ago residing in Chambersburg Pa before moving to Wooster 60 years ago. Survived by daughter Mrs Shibley of Wooster and two sons Andrew Reite of Newcastle Pa and Simon Reita of Wooster. Funeral services were held at the Shibley residence Tuesday afternoon with interment in Wooster.
Prof Elmer Stoll son of Dr J H Stoll Wooster and Miss Harriet Agerter wed in Lima Ohio at bride mother Mrs Martha Agerter home Rev R J Tomson presided The couple will study in Germany after two years in New York prior to teaching and academia in Adelphi Brooklyn and Oxford female seminary confirmations from probate court list of estates guardianships and executors including Will of Isaac Barnett and re all matters before Judge B L Adair with Sept hearings and bond details
John R. Hankey aged 60 died at Bowling Green Friday July 18 from gangrene. Born in Wayne county he spent most of life in Wooster, served in Civil War with 4th Regt O V I, worked as clerk and traveling salesman, moved to Bowling Green twenty years ago and thrived in oil and gas. Survived by wife Emma Van Houten and three sons Rufus Harry and Phile Hankey, all of Bowling Green.
Harriet M Whitford died at her College Avenue home on Saturday July 19 at 2 30 a m aged 57 years 8 months and 24 days born in Mellington Connecticut daughter of Henry Whitford a devout Christian worker and benevolence advocate she led reform efforts and taught at refuges in Boston and Auburndale helped found the Wooster public library and reading room and was matron of missionary homes funeral services were held Sunday evening and burial followed in Cleveland where interment occurred Monday.
Mrs T J Williams and two children visit Supt T J Williams in Summer School at Wooster as enrollments pour in from Phoenix Great Falls Daolath Beaver and nearby towns. A storm postpones the oratory recital to Monday and Eleanor Blecher leads students in a high order program with musical accompaniment by the Houston sisters. Miss Whitford dies after long illness and is buried in Cleveland after services. Amstutz attends Prohibition convention in Coshocton and plans field work with Dr C M Meed. Model School gains value under Hildebrand and Hills. Hoover Cottage cobweb social delights invited guests with Fletcher Mandolin Club providing music.
Ida E Taggart of Franklin township died Saturday July 19 at 10 30 am in Wooster Stoll Ryall hospital after a week of illness following a difficult operation. She was 13, sister of R C Taggart, taught in an Indian school in South Dakota. Interment will be in Wooster cemetery. During August Dr. O A Hills will vacation and the Westminster pulpit will be filled by supplica. Supt J H Leatherman of River Styx enrolled for remainder of term. Charles Turner of Marion and James Begg of Columbia Grove visited Wooster. B Blaser called to home by serious illness of brother at Winesburg. Laura McNarry of New Waterford enrolled for special work. Ida Taggart died after operation.

Yocums Bixler Business College will close for summer Friday July 1 and reopen September 1 and 2. O M Yocum local agent leaves Monday July 28 for Missouri to spend a short vacation with home folks.
A series of lightning strikes last Friday morning caused major damage across several farms near Wooster and Marshallville. Wom. Porter’s barn near Shreve burned after being struck, destroying hay and contents. Wm. Bell’s Wooster barn caught fire but was saved by firefighters. Mrs. Jacob Kebopf’s cow died, and Allen Clark lost a cow. Mrs. Elizabeth Wailer was stunned as a clothes line post shattered. Isaac Mann’s barn near Wear Salem burned with a horse killed. total losses around a thousand dollars.
