Local column notes social events, marriages, injuries, arrests, and town happenings from Wooster and surrounding towns. Early July 27 a fire at George H. Hay’s grain warehouse near Creston’s Erie railway line damaged brick buildings owned by Hay and J P Heckman and ruined hay, lumber, and merchandise. Loss estimated at about 10 000 largely insured, with Seville and local crews aiding.
Mrs. Axup wife of Edward Axup of Chicago traveling evangelist was shot in the left arm at her cousin John Hostettler's home on Pittsburg Ave. A flobart rifle bullet aimed at a sparrow entered through a screen door and struck her while she sat at the dinner table. The baby narrowly escaped. Doctors probed for the bullet but could not locate it.
Orders from the Colonel of the High Regiment for the Second Brigade O. N. G. to encamp at Newark Ohio August 4 to 11 1902 with full uniform and equipment. Men must attend all drills and encampment events. baggage limited. blue flannel shirt. khaki trousers. march gear. Noncommissioned officers school at Armory July 27 and August 3 at 3 30 PM.
United States court issued an injunction against Wooster councilmen J Kinney and J R Overholt in a long running bond case tied to 1901 refunding bonds sold to Eastern Trust and Banking Co. The suit, begun by A L Thomas and C E McBride, seeks to bar disbursement of about 2,000 dollars for interest while challenging the bonds as issued under unconstitutional law and for purposes including building a railroad.
Farmers report good crops with potatoes described as luxurious. Minnie Eyeman remains poorly after a buggy accident with internal injuries. A band feast caused illness for some from ice cream and watermelons. Local residents Uriah Barkey, Frances, Belle Fry, and Mrs. Young are mentioned amid visits and travel. A Presbyterian union service was delayed by rain after an intended open air park service. Al Johnson recovers from erysipelas and Mrs. Mattie Dunham returns from the west for a visit.
Several carloads of material have been received for the construction of the glass factory and the work will be pushed as rapidly as possible. The work of extending the city water supply down Spruce Street to the factory was begun Tuesday morning. Mr Pocock was in Wooster Tuesday.
On July 14 Dr and Mrs W H Haze formerly of Wooster marked the sixty second anniversary of their marriage at their Lansing Michigan home. Dr Haze taught grammar and geography in a schoolhouse on the farm of Capt G P Emrich's father along the Alacisonburg and Meoban caburg road. He wed Miss Lydia Emrich, sister of Capt Emrich, in 1840. The pair have resided in Lansing 36 years.
The M E Sabbath School members attended the prohibition picnic at Plain last Saturday. T W Fortney and wife visited C L Fortney and family at Ashland last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. 5 L Rice of Red Haw were guests of F H Rice's family Sabbath. Joseph Foos and granddaughter of Canton visited relatives here recently. Jessie Neader and Caiey Pocock spent Saturday and Sunday at Shreve. RN Butler is improving and able to be up again. Vaughn Webb is working at Sullivan. Mrs Calvin Ebert and her mother-in-law visited Charles Fabr's family one day last week.
Directors of the Cleveland and Southern Electric railroad decided to finish the line from Chippewa Lake to Wooster this coming winter. The Seville to Wooster route is not yet chosen as two surveyed options remain under debate. Cars can run Medina to Chippewa Lake within fifteen days, pending a right of way dispute.

Fred Young of Crestom, taken to Wooster by Sterling officers after an alcohol induced delirium tremens episode. He raged, smashed furniture, injured his head on bars, and was chained to prevent further self harm.
The executive committee awarded Wingate & Brooks of Cleveland the contract to wire university buildings including underground feed lines and weatherproof cables for electric light and telephone service. The bid runs about 10000 dollars and the firm previously installed wires in the City Opera House and Memorial Chapel. The project includes program clock wiring and classroom indicators. Pierson B. Bowers, moving to divorce Lucanna Bowers of Beaver, Pa, cites quarrels and alleged threats to kill.
The young people of the United Presbyterian church will host a lawn fete this Thursday evening at the northeast corner of Boall and Bowman. Ice cream cake and lemonade will be served. All are invited to attend.
Mrs Mary Bolus aged 63 widow of Squire Louis Bolus died suddenly at her McKenna Street residence on July 24 due to heart disease. Survived by husband and two daughters Drucillus and Katharine. Funeral held Sunday at 2 pm, Rev G C Smith officiating. large attendance.

Catherine Johnson et al to James B Taylor undivided half of 190 acres in Franklin township at 5000. and multiple other transfers in Wooster West Salem Sterling Paint Township and surrounding areas with prices ranging from 60 to 8300 dollars.
