Numerous items note social events and civic happenings in Wayne and nearby counties. Weddings and the revelry of reform movements mingle with court actions, accidents, and business openings including a new coffin works and a loan agency.
The America Bible Society and the Ministerial Association in Wooster adopt resolutions urging support for the fourth general canvass and the work of B. J. Mills, who travels door to door aiding the destitute with the Word of God. They welcome Mills to the community and urge congregations to back the society with prayers and contributions. The text also contains attacks on a political figure, McClure, and a defense of anti-saloon efforts by the Wooster press, noting ongoing partisan conflict.
Charlotte France was granted a divorce from D. K. France last Monday on grounds of habitual drunkenness and extreme cruelty. Alimony includes all clothing and household effects plus $100 cash and $100 each year for life.
William G. Adams father of Town ship Clerk C C Adams died in Wooster last Wednesday at age 72. Funeral scheduled for Friday. He had been a respected Wooster resident for over 25 years. Undertakers met at Orrville last week and another meeting is set for February 3 to prepare a constitution and by laws for a permanent organization with Chas Peer and D Y Landis of Wooster.
Judge Par sons grants injunction restraining the cits from issuing more water works bonds. The ruling leaves Squire Kinney with a quiet front pond on his property where he can while away summer evenings listening to the ker chug of the greenbacks.
Harry Loomis appeared before Judge Pot after a Wednesday indictment for failing to properly ventilate a Chippewa mine. He pleaded guilty and was fined 25 dollars plus costs. the case against E G Loomis was noted as not being the mine owner. Assistant State Mine Inspector King led the charge.
Council met Tuesday evening and passed an ordinance to fund water works bonds by assessment, repealing the old ordinance that paid bonds from rentals. The injunction was granted after the court found rental payments inadequate.
Sierae daugene Lake announces lectures at the roller skating rink. On February 6 Col Copeland speaks on Mistakes of Bob and on February 20 Col G W Bain presents A Journey to the Golden Gate or the Ave and Country in which we live.
John McSweeney Sr denies reports that he received a retainer to defend Mitchell who faces murder trial in Belmont County after another prosecutor was selected. He says friends of the victim asked him to help the prosecution but the prosecutor chose an assistant from the home bar, and McSweeney took no part in the case.
The North Western Ohio Teachers Association met in Tiffin on December 30 and 31 as Dr. Scovel gave the annual address. The Tiffin Tribune lauds the lecture as intensely practical scholarly and eloquent stating it was among the best heard in a Tiffin audience and that those absent missed a rare intellectual treat.
Mr. Alexander Pelchar of 218 Market Street seeks to settle doubt about Atl LorHoRos by producing witnesses. He claims inflammatory rheumatism was cured after taking two doses of ArHLopHoRos, with pain relief and a full night’s sleep, asserting one bottle cured him and offering proof from several witnesses.
Report says Thos Welsh was killed by Robert McLister at Dennison weeks ago. Welsh’s friends engaged John Mce Sweeney of Wooster as prosecutor. McSweeney allegedly set a fee of 500 dollars, with 300 raised and 200 sought from the Catholic Church. Another version claims 700 dollars.

Early Sabbath fire in the Jackson building northeast of Public Square started in the fraternity hall on the third floor likely from a stove left burning. The stove fell through two floors into Justice Humphrey and Cunningham Brothers stores, burning papers and books from Wogeter township. total damage around 550 dollars.
Licenses issued this past week include Ak Goffener and Orrilla J Pl, Howman and Miltie I Keck, Brandetetter and Miss May Ey from Daniel Ih Wie Veidrich Jr, and Margaret.
Common Pleas Court ends with verdict for defendant in the suit by J D McMahon against Charles Power over $500 missing from a depot safe. Power held the safe combination and was charged with conversion. Also noted are leave to file supplemental petitions for Mary Kelley v Samuel Graber and judgments for Davenport v Ensrenger and Reed et al.
Mrs H D Kuhn of Canton died last Sabbath. Prohibitivists plan a county convention on Saturday. James B Henderson was arrested in Canal Fulton for forgery posing as a Columbus Buggy Company agent and passing forged notes. He may have victimized Ashland Loudonville and Doylestown. Stark County courts saw 622 new cases and 766 pending. Prisoners in Stark jail report a ghostly nuisance from Geo McMillen’s murder case. Canton recorded 227 births last year. John Joseph’s large Alliance pottery burned on the eighth.
A list in Wayne township alleges Keister support from Prohibitionists and Prof Notestein, with charges of lying about signatures, slander toward 45,000 Wayne County citizens, and attacks on John McSweeny. The items are denied as absolutely false, and the editor of the Republican is accused of repeatedly recreating them.
Mansfield Herald editor rejects accusation of attempting to vilify Captain McClure. The paper states it has not endeavored to tarnish his character.
A Hayesville correspondent accuses the Republican of backing Prof. W W Wallace and claims the gin bills exceed his room rent while he attends school. The letter calls him a harmonious striker for the paper's editor, and notes the saying Birds of a feather flock together.
A Mansfield Herald notice accuses the iRe publican editor of publishing a vile attack on Prof Notestein. The piece labels the Herald editor as a willing instrument of cheap gossip and McClure's filth, framing the publication as mean opportunism in Wayne County.
