Man Discovers Anthracite Coal on Plain Township Farm

Barton found anthracite coal on his Plain township farm while drilling for water. Massillon capitalists are sinking a shaft on the premises. The injunction case Solicitor Ingram against the city of Wooster to restrain further water works bonds was continued in Common Pleas Court.

Lawrence Exits Race for City Marshal Seat

In the Spring elections a mayor and marshal will be chosen. Wm A Lawrence withdraws from the City Marshal race as an independent candidate.

Two meetings were held to organize a KreigersVerein branch in the city by veterans of the German Army, but the group decided to postpone the effort until spring.

Man Falls From Ice House, Breaks Leg Near City

J. M. Phillips slipped at the ice house door last Monday morning and fell ten feet to the ground breaking his right leg below the knee. He was injured near the city as emergency crews responded to the incident.

Mrs Elias Numbers Jr died of consumption at her home on Pittsburgh Avenue last Thursday. Deceased was a daughter of the late Frederick Brown of Apple Creek. She leaves a husband and three small children. Wooster Telephone Exchange drops subscribers from 50 to 23 as officials plan to boost the line. A two year old girl named Lottie Birthue was taken from the Children's home by Noah Sidle who will place the child in his home. Sidle, age ten, will be cared for by Mrs Snyder in Holmes county. Sheriff Mougey begins business with nine boarders at his hotel. Indicted burglaries include John Nellis and Michael McPeak, and Ed Gibson, with others charged with burglary and larceny.

After an illness of about two weeks Hazel daughter of Ernest C Harry died Sunday evening of congestion of the brain aged 2 years and 5 months The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon.

Presbytery to Meet Over Apple Creek Pastor Resignation

The Presbytery of Wooster will convene at First Presbyterian Church next Friday afternoon January 16 to act on the resignation of Rev. J. C. Truesdale from the Apple Creek Presbyterian Church.

Temperance Speaker Links Liquor Curse to Child Placement

D. D. Miller, trustee of the Home, said at a temperance gathering that eighty percent of children placed in the Wayne County Children's Home are there because liquor destroys their homes.

Eliza Osborn Granted Divorce and Custody in Neglect Case

The court granted Eliza Osborn a divorce from H. E. Osborn on grounds of gross neglect. She received custody of the child, $500 alimony, and $300 held by Perry Osborn as a legacy was ordered transferred to her as part payment on the alimony.

Shelter shed repair causes Tarps Warner injury at Cedar Valley

Tarps Warner was repairing a shelter shed on his farm near Cedar Valley when the center pole gave way and buried him under heavy timber. He remained buried for about three hours until his son discovered him. He suffered bruises to the head but is able to move around again.
