Washington D C Oct 18 for brilliant work at the Marne the French distinguished service cross at the highest order was conferred on First Lieut Moleshberry of the engineers an Iowa man living near Mason City and now at Camp Humphreys Va Lieut Molesberry a quiet modest looking young officer has been brought back here to train troops but will go back to France The cross was pinned on Lieut Molesberry after speeches by Senator Kenyon and the camp commander Gen Katz who recently came from France The decoration is said to be the highest military one given by the French government Twenty five thousand soldiers at the camp saw the ceremony and cheered it to the limit The story of what this Iowan did first came out today and is an illustration of how little is known of the many brave deeds of this war At the Marne about three months ago when the Germans were rushing on Paris a force of some thousands of American engineers numering several regiments was hurled into the fray to stop them They held the Germans but at the close there was only 25 per cent of un wounded men left All officers were killed or wounded but Lieut Molesberry He took command of the force and handled it successfully Senator Kenyon said that Molesberrys performance as related to him at Camp Humphreys was one of the most remarkable of the war The decoration was to have been given him in France but he was called back too early for it to be bestowed.

Glorious Feelin Turns To Duty In War Tales
A vivid report recalls a soldier’s heroism as Lieut Noel killed a German officer manning a machine gun nest and kept the officer’s pistol as a memento. Capt Lovett, Noel’s cousin, witnessed the act and shared the tale on his return to St Louis. Shysters prey on bereaved soldiers, while the War Department urges caution against fees for insurance or allotments claims and offers free legal aid through draft district advisory boards.
