State Entomologist Seeks Locust Brood Specimens
Dr Z P Metcalf of the North Carolina Experiment Station reports the 13 year cicada brood has emerged in parts of North Carolina. He notes the smaller form of the 17 year locust seen last year and asks residents to send specimens with time and place of collection, preferably from every county, including negative reports. The nymphs hatched in 1920 from tiny eggs and have matured to full grown cicadas ready to lay eggs in twigs.
