Wade Stewart of Sil verstone was shot in the knee by Deputy Sheriff A. A. Perry during an attempted arrest after a neighbor reported an alleged attack. Surgeons amputated above the knee as Stewart resisted, while authorities describe him as a dangerous man with prior warrants. Walter Bumgarner, a Boone youth, was shot in the leg during a whiskey raid on the Blowing Rock road. his injury is not serious and no arrests were reported.

Mrs. S. M. Dugger of Beaver Dam died at her home Sunday morning after a long illness. Funeral services were held Monday at Beaver Dam Church at 2 30 p m with Rev. E. J. Farthing in charge. Surviving are her husband and seven children Wilma Rose Ruby Oren Mary and Samuel, plus several brothers and sisters including Mrs. W. S. Christian of Boone. Her death brings sorrow to western Watauga.

Coy Shoemake 21 son of Rev and Mrs T P Shoemake of Lenoir was killed when his car failed to negotiate a curve on the Blowing Rock highway and overturned. Rat Campaign A Great Success In Town
The Civitan Club and State College led a rat control drive across the community. As many as eighteen rats were found dead at one site and over 150 carcasses disposed of in college territory. The total Civitan cost was 46.25 dollars for poison and supplies, with further spending by the college unlisted. The campaign saved town residents money and the club praised civic cooperation.

Hyder Jestes Dies While Swimming Near Foscoe
Hyder Jestes 17 son of Mr and Mrs Robert Jestes drowned Monday afternoon June 26 in a small pool near Foscoe. Companion Henry Fox unable to help due to not knowing how to swim. Divers located the body and resumed failed artificial respiration. Interment followed at the cemetery Tuesday June 28. Survived by parents sisters brother.

Oxford Singing Class In Boone Opens Charity Concert
A six member choir of orphans from the Masonic Home at Oxford visited Boone Tuesday and performed in the college auditorium. A sizeable crowd attended and about 20 dollars was raised for the institution. Mr. Alderman led the tour and Masonic hosts assisted the children during their stay.
