Chicauga Chapter of the Izaak Walton League plans a May 17 Fish Day for handicapped children from Chicauga and Iowa City. After morning fishing at Lake Darling the group will dine at the Walton clubhouse. volunteers urged to contact local organizers.
Ron Fisher of Annandale Virginia writes The Appalachian Trail published by National Geographic Society. He hiked the trail from George to Main with a photographer and his wife from April to October last summer collecting material. A copy will soon join Washington Public Library shelves.
UPI reports 1700 Marine helicopter troops plus 550 ground forces recaptured Hai Lang Thon Hoi Yen and Thon Van Tri in Quang Tri province. About 340 North Vietnamese were killed, eight South Vietnamese dead, 32 wounded. One Marine helicopter crashed. nine American advisers with the force.
Gilchrist Hall at the University of Northern Iowa burned Friday night, costing about 1.5 million dollars to replace building and equipment. Fire chiefs cited attic origins from wiring or spontaneous combustion with no arson evidence. Officials expect a 1973 legislature request for a special appropriation.
Highland High School hosts Open House Monday at 7 p.m. featuring Exhibit '72 art and 127 students from grades 7 to 12 with demonstrations in pottery and silk screen. A style show by 45 home economics students follows at 8 p.m. Tuesday the pops concert, Light Sings, showcases Highland Swing Group and jazz, with a potluck and awards prior. free admission for Music Boosters, 50 cents otherwise.
Coppock Iowa, a town of 58 residents, lies in Washington, Henry and Jefferson counties. Henry County will create a new polling place costing about 250 dollars for five election clerks and supplies. Coppock clerk Lillian Hesser doubts the precinct will be worthwhile, noting only about a dozen Henry County voters and near-silence on election day.
Iowa Highway Patrol in a Friday crackdown arrested eight protesters on the University of Iowa campus amid a ban on unauthorized gatherings. Seven charged with disorderly conduct and one with criminal trespass, as authorities urged smaller groups and faced decisions on weekend patrol deployment.

Johnson ranch. At least ten missing. The Guadalupe and Comal rivers rose after a day of heavy rain. Local residents recount rising water and rescue efforts.
A tractor-trailer and a Greyhound bus crashed on U.S. 11W near Bean Station Tennessee killing at least 14 and injuring 17. The bus splintered, the truck cab burned, and authorities say 35 to 40 people were aboard. Emergency crews and ambulances rushed victims to Morristown Hamblen Hospital as the road remained closed for miles.
The Sanitation department will start the annual spring clean-up Monday morning under director Orville Long. Crews will cover the city south of the railroad tracks and west of South Iowa Avenue moving counter clockwise from southeast to northeast and northwest as weather and trash allow. Homeowners should have trash in containers ready and mark items not to be picked up so debris along alleys can be removed.
