New Mexico village keeps flag flying day and night
Taos New Mexico, a historic town, maintains an American flag in place 24 hours a day atop a cottonwood tree in the plaza. The flag, guarded since 1846 by Capt. Simpson and later descendants, is one of six places in the nation with continuous exposure. Other locations where the flag flies at night are the Capitol in Washington, Fort McHenry near Baltimore, Key’s grave in Deadwood, and the Flag House in Philadelphia.
