Iowa Farm Outlook Notes Beef Demand Boosts Prices

Fed cattle prices rose about 1.50 in May and early June with ISU economist Gene Futrell predicting the gains may hold or rise modestly through summer. Higher wholesale beef demand and a 3-cent rise at wholesale helped, while slaughter and weights show mixed trends. Futrell expects a fall price rise if supplies shrink, potentially $27-$28 a hundredweight by autumn.
