Washington's Civil War Hero Colonel Palmer's Shiloh Tale
Des Moines reports Colonel Palmer of Iowa, veteran of the Eighth and later Twenty-fifth Iowa, recounts his harrowing Shiloh survival. Wounded in the breast, he crawled to safety behind lines, endured freezing nights under a Confederate tent, and was aided by comrades and a friendly enemy. He later recovered, organized the Twenty-fifth Iowa, and earned honor as a Christian soldier and commander.
