Chairman Bill Perdock outlined parade plans for Washingtons anniversary with a 1 30 p m assembly and 2 p m move. Entries gather north of the Hotle Feed and Grain building while floats line West Main Street. The 872nd Ordnance Co units aid in formation and policing. Antiques parade forms at the fair grounds at 1 p m for 2 p m start inviting antique cars and trucks to participate.

Floyd E Baumert of Keota Dies at 63

Floyd Everette Baumert 63 died this morning at his Keota home after a stroke in 1955 ended his trucking. Born Oct 14 1900 north of Harper he lived in Keota since 1926 and married Pearl Brock in 1921. Survived by wife 11 children 34 grandchildren one sister and two brothers. Funeral services pending at Powell Funeral Home Keota.

Mrs Kate Ross of Wayland Rites Held in Mt Pleasant

Mrs Kate Ross of Wayland died Monday at 1 30 p m in Washington County Hospital Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p m in the Baptist Church at Mt Pleasant with Rev James Troxel in charge Burial will be in Green Mound Cemetery west of Trenton Zehr Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements She was born February 4 1862 near Wayland daughter of Philip and Susan Hyde She married Joseph Ross March 4 1903 who died in 1957 Survivors include daughters Mrs Ruth Tschantz of Wayland and Mrs Edith Lane of Brighton sons Paul of Davenport Dale and Russell Ross and Mrs Geraldine Smith all of Mt Pleasant Also surviving are several grandchildren 19 great grandchildren and one sister Mrs Nora Hixson of Wayland

Washington County Cancer Crusade raises $6607.24 total

The annual Washington County Cancer Crusade collected 6607.24 dollars, exceeding a 5510 dollar goal. Rev. Charles Hawkins says contributions came from residential areas 5906.74, business and industry 149, organizations 15, memorials 452.50, and other sources 84, praising workers and chairmen countywide.

Baseball practice schedules changed for Washington anniversary

Changes in YMCA Little League schedule this week cancel sessions this afternoon and Wednesday. The 9 to 10 year olds practice set for Thursday afternoon moves to Thursday morning from 9 to 10:30. Friday games proceed as scheduled.

William L. Zager of 404 East Van Buren Street died this morning at University Hospitals in Iowa City after a four week illness. He was 78, born December 19, 1885.

Three Injured In One Car Crash In Iowa County

A Cambridge Minnesota driver Milton C Olsen lost headlights after dimming, striking a bridge abutment on highway 21 near Crawfordsville Saturday at 11 p.m. Injured were Gary Phelphs of Palo with chest and rib injuries Mina Joe Woods and Marcella Kay Barbers of Cedar Rapids with lacerations. All were admitted to Washington County Hospital for treatment and released.

Henry McCoy rites in Crawfordsville

Rites for Henry H. McCoy set for 2 p.m. Saturday June 13 1964 at the Federated Church Crawfordsville with Rev. Robert Rushing in charge and burial at Crawfordsville Cemetery. Masonic graveside services. McCoy died Sunday June 7 in California. Born Sept 1 1884 in Washington County he was a retired railroad engineer and a longtime Crawfordsville resident. Survivors include daughters Irene Smith and Marie Mitchell and three granddaughters. Sherman Eden Funeral Home arranged.

Iowa Health Department urged for higher pay and funding

The Governors Public Health Advisory Committee urged higher salaries for the health commissioner and staff, more funds to fill vacancies and start new programs, and eligibility for extra federal aid. It also suggested altering the Board of Health and enabling local taxing bodies to finance local health programs. The nine member group was appointed by Gov. Hughes to find a successor to the late Dr. Edmund Zimmerer.

Directors elected and fair plans set at county fair board meeting

Washington County Fair Association officers were elected Marion Augustine as president Cloud Willits as vice president Milo Orris as secretary and treasurer and eight directors named for three year terms Honorary life member Bruce Cowden designated Holdover directors listed plus ongoing members. The group approved purchasing a 20 by 15 foot building for animal exhibit dressing and washing near the hog barn and noted all fair exhibit spaces are sold for this year. The association reports 757.60 in the bank and no debt Floral and art shows will be held in the same location as last year with Mayme Squire and Mary Lee Moore in charge Vegetable show entomology and leaf plant exhibits also planned Southeast Iowa features noted. Entertainment lineup includes vaudeville Monday, pony pull Tuesday, beauty queen contest Tuesday, tractor pull and watermelon feast Wednesday, band concert and parade of champions, Morrell chorus, and Thursday horse show.
