Iowa House considers curb on Public Safety directives
Des Moines lawmakers study limiting the Department of Public Safety powers which issue mandates with the force of law without normal legislative review. Rep Charles Grassley chairs the rules committee and says three recent motor vehicle rules were issued without clearance. He warns such actions could set dangerous precedents and be struck down by courts. Grassley prefers a rider on a non-appropriations bill to require rules through standard channels.
