A four foot bullsnake caused a brief scare during the Tuesday night commencement at a local high school gym. A choir member captured it and Dave Knaack relocated the reptile near the entrance shrub. Witnesses reported the snake entwined a senior’s chair before being guided away.
Three area women helped obtain benefits for former Advance Ross Electronics employees. Congress member Fred Schwengel's office said President Nixon approved aid for workers under the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.
Des Moines Iowa House postpones a final vote on creating an interim committee to study parimutuel betting. The panel would report next January on revenue effects and impacts on citizens and the economy. Lawmakers debate political and fiscal merits amid prior failed betting bills.
President Nixon told reporters Moscow must not weaponize its Cairo accord or risk jeopardizing Middle East peace. He said China’s UN seat and U.S. policy shifts were under review, and pledged priority to heroin control and Europe troop talks. A June 10 list will outline China trade in nonstrategic goods. Brig. Gen. John W. Donaldson, former commander of the 11th Infantry Brigade, is charged with murder and assault in eight South Vietnamese civilian deaths in late 1968 and early 1969. Lt. Col. William J. McCloskey also faces two civilian slayings from 1960. Charges announced at Ft. Meade, with Article 32 inquiry possible. Pentagon probes another 1968 civilian deaths incident.
Washington County 4-H members who missed the deadline may still apply for the Lake Darling Junior Camp to be held June 14 through 17. A few openings exist for youths aged 10 to 13 while older 4-H members are selected as counselors from across Wellman Crawfordsville and surrounding areas.
Collins Radio Co and North American Rockwell Corp announce an agreement subject to stockholder approval. It includes selling 35 million dollars of a new convertible preferred Collins Radio stock to North American Rockwell. In Delaware Ohio a chicken with four legs was hatched named Double Clutch.
United Press International reports partly cloudy skies with a chance of thunderstorms tonight and Thursday. Lows near the lower 70s, warming Friday with highs expected in the upper 80s.
