Corn virus seen in Iowa fields this season

Iowa State University plant pathologist Robert C. Lambe warned that virus infected corn fields will be more common in 1965. The new virus, found last year in 11 counties, resembles Maize dwarf mosaic and may involve Johnsongrass as a host, with researchers planning inoculation studies and field surveys to identify the virus and its spread. Farmers should report suspected cases to county extension offices and avoid sending samples to the university.
