Iowa debate on under18 driver education bill stalls in Senate

State Safety Commissioner William Sueppel and Senate leaders failed to reach agreement on a bill requiring persons under 18 to complete driver education before licenses. The measure, passed by the House 114 to 5, faced delays amid questions about mandatory district offerings and private school impact. The sponsor, Sueppel, argued most districts already teach driver education, while Frommelt urged ensuring courses are available to all youths. The bill would pay districts 30 dollars per student completing the course and remains under review as talks continue.
