Funeral pending for Lyle Lathan Lee 19
Funeral services are pending for Lyle Lathan Lee 19 a United States Air Force member stationed at Sinland Air Force Base Minnesota. He died at St Marys Hospital in Duluth Minnesota of pneumonia born October 4 1945 in Columbus City the son of Cecil and Ocean Earil Lee. He graduated Columbus Community High School was a member of United Presbyterian Church. Survived by parents four brothers Larry Lester Lannie and Louis and a paternal grandmother Mrs Bessie Lee Columbus Junction. Stacy Funeral Home is in charge.

Washington observed Memorial Day with a flag raising at 8 a.m. on the post office lawn followed by services for navy veterans at McLaughlin bridge and parade activities at two city cemeteries. Patriotic groups Boy Scouts Cub Scouts Camp Fire girls and National Guard units joined the event. Clyde Brown served as grand marshal but was replaced by Earl Galloway due to illness.

Bekel of Germanville Dies at 84 in Iowa City
Charles A Bekel 84 of Germanville died at University Hospital Iowa City after a week long illness. A lifelong Brighton area farmer he lived on the same farm his entire life and was active in Hope Lutheran Church Germanville. Survivors include his wife a son Merle and a daughter Mrs Willard Diers eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral will be Wednesday at 2 pm in Hope Lutheran Church with Rev Erwin Aebmann officiating. Burial in the church cemetery Gould Funeral Home Brighton in charge. Body to lie in state at the church Wednesday noon to 2 pm.

In a major weekend attack near Quang Ngai the Communists inflicted heavy losses on South Vietnamese forces with 600 to 700 casualties. Two American servicemen were killed, and North Vietnamese regulars were cited among the attackers.
