Bucking the Accident Odds in Towing Vehicles

Instructions from Dr. Lillian Schwenk of Iowa State University offer safety tips for towing. Use slow motion driving, check hitch and lights, avoid back ups, use a buddy observer, and leave extra stopping distance. Downshift on downgrades, rely on engine braking, and avoid overloading to reduce fishtailing and jackknifing risks. Highways impose 65 mph limits for two wheeled trailers on interstates and 55 mph on primary highways.
