Eleven Die In Rural Iowa Highway Crashes
United Press reports 11 persons died Thursday night in multiple Iowa crashes. Fatalities include Danney Lee Jackson 25 of Dubuque and William Kurt 22 of Cascade in a two car crash on U.S. 20 near Pesata Corners. three Mount Pleasant residents died in a car train collision near Rome in Henry County. Jody Lowe 1 of Castana died in a Woodbury County wreck while three others were injured. Allen Sargeant 21 of Waterloo died en route to hospital after losing control on a Black Hawk County road. Cecelia Ahrenholtz 53 of Don City killed in a head on with a semitrailer on U.S. 59. Russell Mowen 64 of Des Moines killed in a Des Moines two car crash. Ricky Miller 19 of Silver City killed near Council Bluffs. and a 1 year old Castana child among other injured in additional crashes. The incidents occurred Thursday night across several counties.

Hijacker Surrenders After PSA Jet Ransom in Oakland
A 21 year old AWOL soldier seized a Pacific Southwest Airlines Boeing 727 and demanded 455000 in ransom. After two tense hours on the runway at Oakland airport he surrendered to California highway patrol Captain Lloyd Turner, handing over two guns and the cash. The hijacking followed another PSA incident a day earlier.

Riley Named Chairman Of Iowa United Nations Day Committee
