Fort Madison Penitentiary seeks 525000 for staff, upgrades
Des Moines reports that James N. Gillman, Services Commissioner, will ask Governor Ray for 525000 to address deficiencies at Fort Madison penitentiary. He plans to hire 24 more staff and may reallocate within the department or seek a supplemental appropriation. The push follows inmate grievances during a recent lockup amid fears of an uprising.
