Railroads mull track swap between Muscatine and Washington

Bruce Cowden notes Milwaukee and Rock Island railroads may reroute trains over the Rock Island line from Muscatine to Washington. Washington would see Milwaukee trains rejoin Rock Island to Ottumwa and Kansas City, with local stops likely at Ainsworth Letts Columbus Junction and Fruitland. Officials have yet to announce details, but surveys and negotiations aim to decide if a 1956 change is workable given single track limits and freight traffic.
