Harness racing survives amid strong public interest and horse love
The editorial reflects on devotion of parents, the Iowa state fair’s harness racing status, and a view that racing is not finished. It notes a record 552193.30 in 1949 Grand Circuit purses, rising stud fees to 5000 dollars, and growing saddle horse interest led by the Washington saddle club. It cites Albert Donovan and the Oskaloosa Herald, discusses federal aid comments by Congressman Martin and an airplane accident insurance example at $125 for a 100000 policy, and observes few airline accidents fielding lower premiums than expected.
