City hall theft yields few solid clues in Buffalo robbery
Police in Buffalo say a black imported felt hat and an abandoned stolen car are the only solid clues in a city hall robbery that netted 299130 in cash and tax checks. The unmasked bandits struck at 9 15 am slugging the city treasurer and fled. A passerby knocked off the hat as the getaway unfolded. One suspect was seen earlier in the office Monday, but overall investigators report little else to go on.

Hope to rescue more in Congo battle reports
UPI dispatch says mercenary led Congolese troops moved into rebel strongholds in the northeast to free hostages. About 120 whites, mostly Greeks, were rescued from Wamba after a government force seized the village, with earlier reports claiming 25 to 30 whites killed. Remaining captives were believed to be in Watsa and Faradje as troops planned further advances. Missionary William McChesney, last American unaccounted for, was believed near Wamba and may have been among those rescued, while confirmation was unavailable.
