Senate panel backs tentative dependency pay proposal

The Senate Armed Services Committee tentatively approves a plan requiring enlisted soldiers with dependents to send home a substantial portion of pay, offset by added monthly quarters allowances. The measure targets lower grades with 45 dollars per month for one dependent, while higher grades retain 67.50 dollars, aiming to outflank a World War II style administration bill.

Army allowances change with dependents and hardship rule

The proposed law would raise allowances to 60 dollars a month for men with two dependents and 75 dollars for three dependents, with upper ranks getting the higher aid. Men with one dependent would send home 60 percent of their pay and quarters, with two dependents 60 percent of total pay, and three dependents 70 percent, arguing more dependents create hardship. Recruit totals would be 60, 81, and 105 dollars, while a master sergeant would be 151.25, 181.50 and 217 dollars. Also notes social visits: Orie Roth and Dan Roth at Elmer Roth home, and King reunion attendees Dave Graber and David Allen in Illinois. Benjamin Beese and James Rinner visiting parental Arnold Rinner in Kansas City area.
