Study committee report arouses critics on abortion reform
A legislative Criminal Code Study Committee urged a liberalized abortion statute by a 5-4 vote, allowing women 19 and older to obtain an abortion up to 16 weeks for any reason, with parental consent for minors and a residency clause critics call vague. Debate centered on residency, enforcement, and potential impact on Iowa’s laws, amid partisan divisions and Gov. Ray’s push for liberalization.
