Feeding value of small grains versus corn for poultry
W Whitfield Iowa State College extension poultry man notes small grains play roles in the ration while corn is the best feed for fattening young stock due to its high concentrate and palatability. Corn Use Drops Despite Higher Livestock and Stocks
Economists note 14 percent less corn used in April through June than last year while livestock numbers rise and corn stocks grow. Exports from Oct 1 to July 1 totaled 31 million bushels versus 104 million a year earlier, helping explain reduced consumption. Farmers fed about 3.5 percent more corn in the last nine months, aided by feeding changes and heavier early market weights.
