Sioux City report shows Mrs. L. Decora learned her sore leg was a broken ankle after ten days of limping. The notice highlights a medical misapprehension and the eventual diagnosis.
Des Moines salesman James Kunath of Creston learned licenses must be used in the issuing county. After buying a Union county license he learned it cannot be used in Des Moines. He paid a second $1.50 fee in Polk county and hoped for approval to wed Mary Helen Conlon.
W. Peterson returns to a Sioux City filling station after waiting 12 hours for Otto Hendricks to call off his police dog. The dog sought shelter from rain, then growled at the attendant. A passerby identified the dog as Hendricks’s and the owner summoned. The dog trotted home when whistled.
Iowa City reports the drowning of Howard Wilcox, 25, of Downey, south of town while seining fish. He slipped into a small bayou and could not swim, as could two companions Martin Mulback and Harold Mulback, who also failed to escape. Bystanders Junior Weinard, Herbert Sorenson, and Chester Lane witnessed the tragedy from shore and likewise could not swim.
Mrs. Mabel Miller of Minneapolis filed a $30,000 alienation of affections suit in Omaha district court against Grover Mickelwait, the husband’s uncle and a farmer near Glenwood. She alleges Mickelwait entertained her husband lavishly and took him out in “gay society” while she was sent to live with her husband’s sisters.
DES MOINES Infection from a wisdom tooth extraction led to the death of Robert C. Converse 72 of Knoxville Iowa. Converse native to Iowa had the tooth pulled Saturday after infection developed and was brought Monday to a Des Moines hospital. Family members said he had most of his natural teeth.
Police recover Dreher’s personal property including two purses one penny two keys and papers near the western city limits. Inspector Brophy notes garage worksheets among the papers and concludes Dreher was unquestionably robbed based on the single remaining penny.
Pickets demonstrated outside four downtown Des Moines stores as Younkers building service employees strike enters a second day. Union leaders planned talks with store representatives to resolve the deadlocked contract dispute affecting 36 of 45 maintenance workers.
Booster meeting back on after being called off yesterday. Whisker and Sunbonney clubs asked to gather on the south side of Central Park at 7 30 this evening.
